A car insurance company is no good unless it has actual finances behind. There are thousands of car insurance companies out there, and some of them are as inexperienced as you at your lemonade stand. In order for them to be able to cover the costs of claims when you need them to, they have to have enough money to do so. A company that has a history of bad financial management won’t, nor will a company that has hardly any customers.

So how do you know? If you’re interested in a smaller or a local company, you should always check first, and it’s very easy to do so. All you need to do is see how they come out when the credit agencies rate them. The same way that they accept you based on your credit report, you should accept them based on the same. Multiple As mean the company is good, but you shouldn’t accept anything less than a single A.

• Customer service.

You may not be able to expect the most polite service from the McDonald’s drive thru, but you should be able to expect it from your car insurance company. It’s very simple to find out where your company rates on this scale. All you have to do is search for car insurance reviews, and a bunch of sites will pop up where consumers go to either praise or complain about the company they’re with. You do have to take these with a grain of salt, though. Every company has its problems, and not all of those people will be telling the truth, but a trend of bad reviews means something.
