Cheap Young Driver Insurance
Reader’s Question:
Is it true that insurance providers offer car insurance discounts for teenager who take a Driver Education course?
Blanche
Los Angeles CA
Insurance providers do give a car insurance discount for young drivers that have taken a driver education class. These insurance providers believe that it is important for new young drivers to take a driver education class if offered by the insurance provider since it is helpful as they learn to drive automobile for the first time.
In some states it is required for the young drivers to take a driver’s education class and that is why no car insurance discount is given to some. Defensive driving class or driver education course are also used by most states in lieu of driving points after receiving an individual receives a traffic offense violation.
Cheap Military Auto Insurance
Reader’s Question:
I have a boyfriend who serves the U.S. armed forces. If he is assigned in another country let’s say in Afghanistan (but I’m hoping he won’t) what should we do with his auto insurance coverage? Do we need to keep on paying for that even if he’s not in the United States? Oh I forgot to tell you, I have my own car too. And there’s no way that I would be using his car if ever he is stationed outside the country. We both live in Kendall-Perrine, Florida.
Josephine
Kendall-Perrine, FL
I’m hoping that your boyfriend would never be assigned to go to Afghanistan.
Going back to your question, according to the Florida Department of Financial Services (DFS), a person serving the U.S. armed forces who is required to serve outside the United States is not required to carry Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and Property Damage Liability (PDL). This is given that there is no one who is going to use that person’s vehicle.
To be exempted from carrying these policies, you need to write your auto insurance agent or company and request for the exemption and also inform the Florida Department of
Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV).
For additional information, ask you car insurance agent and also the Florida DHSMV.
Buy Cheap Good Driver Car Insurance in Arizona
Reader’s Question:
I am just curious. I am about to get auto insurance. I heard from a friend who just purchased his car insurance that auto insurance companies take a look at a person’s credit history with or without a person’s permission. Is that true? Is that being practiced here where I live? By the way, I am from Chandler, Arizona.
Abigail
Chandler, AZ
I’ve read something about your question. And yes, your friend is definitely correct.
According to the federal Fair Credit reporting ACT (FCRA), with or without a person’s permission, insurers are allowed to dig into a person’s credit information. However, insurers (in your case car insurance companies) must inform a person that they are going to collect credit information. Also, they must notify you that you have the right to access said information and have inaccurate information (if any) to be corrected.
I hope I was able to help you with this. Bear in mind that credit history is one the factors that affect car insurance premium. The better your credit history is the higher the chance of getting lower insurance rate. If you are shopping for car insurance rates in Chandler, Arizona you can seek the help of a car insurance agent or use the websites.
Cheap Non Owners Insurance Policy
Reader’s Question:
Hi, I have a friend who recently got a job here in Sarasota, Florida, and she needs a car to drive to and from work. The problem is they only have one car, and her husband uses it. I was thinking of lending her my car. If something happens while she’s driving, is my auto insurance going to pay for the damages?
Beth
Sarasota, FL
Hi, Beth! To answer your question–As long as she has your permission to drive your car, yes, your car insurance company is going to pay. It doesn’t mean that she has to get your permission every time she uses it–it’s just that you should be able to say that you actually lent her your car. I think, though, that it’s a different thing if she uses your car more than you do. Technically speaking, a car insurance policy is associated with the car itself. However, car insurance companies take note of who the primary driver of the car is also.
One thing you can do is to call your car insurance company in Sarasota, Florida and have your friend added to your insurance policy. If they find out that your friend is the primary driver, and not you, they may say that you have given them false information and not pay. Another thing you can do, and this is better, I think, is to ask your friend to get a non-owner’s policy. This type of insurance covers any car she may drive. But if she gets into an accident using your car, your insurance is who’s going to pay first, and then your friend’s policy will cover the excess amount that isn’t covered by yours.
Where Can I Get Cheap Auto Insurance In Las Vegas Nevada?
Reader’s Question:
I live in Las Vegas, Nevada and is it true that hybrid cars are cheaper on insurance because they have less power?
Donna
Las Vegas, NV
Hybrid cars may or may not be cheaper than vehicles with a normal gas or diesel powered engine. It depends on the underwriting rules and guidelines of an individual car insurance company to determine rates for vehicles, such as hybrids.
There are some insurers in Las Vegas, NV that offer discounts if you have a hybrid vehicle. Once such company is Travelers car insurance, in 2006 they became the first car insurance company to offer a discount for hybrid drivers through the whole US. They rolled out a state by state discount and thus by 2007 have 44 states in total that they offer this discount in.
Travelers offers the discount to hybrid owners because their studies has shown that hybrid drivers typically are lower risk drivers. Their research shows that many hybrid buyers are married, between the ages of 41 and 60 and safer on the road then many drivers. They are mature, experienced drivers that are trying to save on gas costs and thus are not typically known to be “lead” foots or risky drivers. There are other car insurance providers though that may actually charge more to insure a hybrid. This is because of the cost of repairs being higher than the same model with a gasoline engine. There are also more components to replace if certain areas of a hybrid car are damaged or inoperable.
Cheap SR22 Car Insurance?
Reader’s Question:
If a person in a household is required to get an SR-22, will this affect the policies of all other drivers in the household in Great Falls Montana?
Richard
Great Falls, MT
If one individual in a household is being required to carry an SR-22 this should not affect the other policies of other motorist within their household in Great Falls.
The car insurance policies of these other drivers will need to reflect that driver (the one that is required to get an SR22) and exclude the driver. If those car insurance policies will not exclude the motorist and are needed to cover the driver then those insurance policies could be affected.
If the motorist does not have an SR22 on any insurance policy, then the household policy will need an SR22 insurance for the driver.
Very Cheap Rental Car Insurance
Reader’s Question:
How do I insure a rental car overseas? I’m from Charlotte, North Carolina.
Ian
Charlotte, NC
Make sure that the car you’ve rented in the U.S. will still be covered if you drive it overseas (i.e. in Canada or Mexico) and know this before signing the contract.
You can buy the rental company’s insurance if you rent a car overseas. Failure to do so could possibly put you inside an overseas jail if you have an accident. Virtually all car insurance policies purchased in the United States do not provide coverage overseas. It’s always wise to buy the rental car company’s insurance when renting a car overseas.
Use a recognized brand-name rental company based in the U.S.
Ask for the breakdown on what is included in the rate when renting a car overseas. Most insurance companies’ contracts include liability insurance. Fire and theft may also be covered but one thing that’s not covered by most rental agreements is collision.
I Need Very Cheap Auto Insurance in New York
Reader’s Question:
Does New York state law allow married couples to have separate auto insurance policies?
Brooke
Yonkers, NY
It is your option to have separate auto insurance policies, but most of the time; it is cheaper to be on the same policy. A New York insurance company will ask questions of you being married or if there are other licensed operators in your household as a basis in calculating your premium rates.
If you and your spouse have separate auto insurance coverage, you may want to do a cost/benefit analysis of each plan to see if you should continue to keep your auto coverage separate. For example, if your spouse’s auto insurance policy has a higher deductible and/or co-payments or fewer benefits than those offered by your plan, he or she may want to join your auto insurance plan instead. You may also want to compare the rate for one family plan against the cost of two single plans.
It is also advisable for you to examine your auto insurance coverage too. If you and your spouse own separate cars, consider pooling your auto insurance policies with one company. Many car insurance companies will give you a discount if you insure more than one car with them. If one of you has a poor driving record, make sure that changing companies won’t mean paying a higher premium.
