Reader’s Question:

I am just curious. I am about to get auto insurance. I heard from a friend who just purchased his car insurance that auto insurance companies take a look at a person’s credit history with or without a person’s permission. Is that true? Is that being practiced here where I live? By the way, I am from Chandler, Arizona.

Abigail

Chandler, AZ

I’ve read something about your question. And yes, your friend is definitely correct.

According to the federal Fair Credit reporting ACT (FCRA), with or without a person’s permission, insurers are allowed to dig into a person’s credit information. However, insurers (in your case car insurance companies) must inform a person that they are going to collect credit information. Also, they must notify you that you have the right to access said information and have inaccurate information (if any) to be corrected.

I hope I was able to help you with this. Bear in mind that credit history is one the factors that affect car insurance premium. The better your credit history is the higher the chance of getting lower insurance rate. If you are shopping for car insurance rates in Chandler, Arizona you can seek the help of a car insurance agent or use the websites.

Reader’s Question:

I’ve just recently relocated to Birmingham, Alabama. I have a teenage daughter who is just starting to learn how to drive. My question is—Should I buy insurance for her, or since she’s going to be using my car, will she be covered under my auto insurance policy? Thanks!

Sue

Birmingham, AL

Everyone I think aged 25 and above needs to have his or her auto insurance for the car he or she is driving. If you already have your own license and your own car, you must have the car insured. But, of course, since your daughter is just learning how to drive, I don’t think she’s already 25. Kids who are just learning how to drive cannot have their own auto insurance policy because you need a valid drivers’ license to get car insurance. If your daughter is just currently learning how to drive, I’m pretty she would be covered under either the high school’s insurance policy or the driving school’s policy. After she gets her drivers’ license, then that is the time to take an insurance policy for the car you’re giving her this Christmas!

Since she only has a learners’ permit now, and the car she’s going to drive is yours, she would covered under your policy. I think that most auto insurance policies are whole-family policies since they don’t expect that each family member has his or her own car to drive. Of course, there will be car-borrowing involved. If I were you, I’d call an insurance company/agent there in Birmingham, Alabama to ask the necessary questions. Choose wisely because things are different from one company to the next. Tell your daughter, Sue, that I said happy driving.

Reader’s Question:

If I am in jail, but own a car, how should I still insure it? I am sure I wont be getting out anytime soon. If I don’t get car insurance then my license tag won’t get renewed. But I don’t drive it. What do I do regarding this in Chicago Illinois, can I get a pay monthly only policy?

Alfred

Chicago IL

Most states including Chicago Illinois require that you carry car insurance on the car if it is currently registered. It is likely that if you are not driving the car that you may not have to get insurance for it. You could terminate your registration and return your license tag. You can still insure the car if you want to. You could buy an auto insurance policy like you ordinarily would. You would use the street address where the car is being kept and you could continue to be the named insured. You can quickly and easily get an auto insurance quote and purchase your policy online. You can begin here, its fast and its FREE!

Very Cheap Rental Car Insurance

Reader’s Question:

How do I insure a rental car overseas? I’m from Charlotte, North Carolina.

Ian

Charlotte, NC

Make sure that the car you’ve rented in the U.S. will still be covered if you drive it overseas (i.e. in Canada or Mexico) and know this before signing the contract.

You can buy the rental company’s insurance if you rent a car overseas. Failure to do so could possibly put you inside an overseas jail if you have an accident. Virtually all car insurance policies purchased in the United States do not provide coverage overseas. It’s always wise to buy the rental car company’s insurance when renting a car overseas.
Use a recognized brand-name rental company based in the U.S.

Ask for the breakdown on what is included in the rate when renting a car overseas. Most insurance companies’ contracts include liability insurance. Fire and theft may also be covered but one thing that’s not covered by most rental agreements is collision.

Where Can I Buy Cheap RV Motor Home Insurance?

Summer is ending, but for those who own RVs, vacation does not have to end. There are thousands, if not millions, of people in the United States who spend a significant amount of their year living in parks all around the country in their recreational vehicles, and the number of these people is growing. Because of this growth, the need for knowledge about RV motor home insurance is on a much higher demand.

A significant number of people who insure their RVs simply add these vehicles to the same insurance plan that their car is on. This might seem like a good idea, considering that most of the time in an RV is spent parked rather than on the road, and thus the likelihood of a car accident is smaller, but it really is not. You never know what is going to happen, and if you don’t prepare for it, especially in the case of such a vehicle as an RV motor home, you are going to face a lot of loss.

RV motor home insurance is necessary to all operators of motor homes because it covers a lot more than your average car insurance policy does. One of the most important things is the contents of the RV. With your car, if you get into a wreck and lose a few CDs, that might come under the coverage of your home insurance policy. However, with an RV this is not the case, especially for the big and expensive items that come installed with the RV and are not insured under a regular car insurance plan.

Drivers of RVs need RV motor home insurance because it protects both whatever is in the RV, the RV itself, and their medical problems that could result from an accident. It also comes with more liability, which is very important considering that a collision with an RV could cause a lot more damage to the other car involved. Another thing that might appeal to travelers is that it gives them an ability to travel outside of the country to Canada and Mexico while retaining their coverage and not having to get travel car insurance.

In any State, the way to have the best rate for car insurance is to have a clean driving record. In New Hampshire, if your car is not financed but you have a spotless driving records, you are not required to buy any car insurance. But this has limitations. For instance, if you are convicted of a DWI (Driving while Intoxicated) or DUI (Driving under the Influence) you will be required to buy for at least 3 years of car insurance. So best way obviously to get or keep your insurance low is to drive safely and obey traffic rules all the time.

You may also consider dropping your car insurance if you are driving an old car. Your car insurance wont pay for the repairs anyway.Check for any programs with your insurance company regarding driver’s refresher course. This would help lower your monthly premiums if you are 55 or older.

If you are a teenager and still in school, make sure to get a clean driving record. Check with your insurance company also if you are entitled to a “Good Student Discount” on their car insurance.

Make sure you check online and shop around so you can compare car insurance prices. This will ensure you of getting the best car insurance rate in New Hampshire.

Goodluck!

Car Insurance For 16 Year Old Student Driver

Reader question:

My son is sixteen now and he’s going to need to get teen car insurance. How do I do this?

Amelie

Glad you asked.

Dealing with your little child growing up is hard for any parent who is used to their kid depending totally on them for all of their wants and needs. When a child comes to that age where he or she is able to drive a car, whether it belongs to them or not, a whole new avenue of freedom opens up that many parents find it difficult to deal with. Not only does your kid need you less than ever before, but you now have a whole lot more to worry about, considering that one of the leading causes of death among teenagers in the United States is a traffic accident.

When a kid does come to that age, though, one of the most important things is to make them safer and take more responsibility by purchasing car insurance for the student driver. Car insurance is required by law, even if you’re kid does not own the vehicle he or she is driving. If they’re driving your car, insurance with only your name on it will not suffice, although it does sometimes work when they get in an accident and you are making a claim. You shouldn’t take your chances, though.

Hooking your teenager up with car insurance may not make a difference in how they drive, but it will assuage your worries quite a bit concerning what happens to them on the road. If you buy car insurance for the student driver, you can be sure that if your child acts irresponsibly and damages your car due to teenage decision making, you won’t have to worry. Most importantly, you can also know that if your kid is on car insurance for the student driver then, if he or she is injured in a crash, they can get the medical care that they need.

Cheers,

Fashun Guadarrama.
