Reader’s Question:

I have car insurance right now. I would say it’s not that expensive and it’s still affordable. I just wanna know what should I do to keep it that way? I mean, how could I keep my car insurance rate in Connecticut to be at affordable price?

Izabella

West Haven, CT

Hello Izabella!

I heard from my brother who is a car insurance agent himself that in order to keep the auto insurance premium down, follow these simple tips:

1. Always drive safely. As you see traffic violations and accidents are eye sore to auto insurance companies and they always cause an increase to car insurance rates.

2. If you can have enough money to pay the amount of deductible in an event of a loss, then increase your deductible.

3. If you are driving an old car, you might want to consider removing collision and comprehensive coverage on your car insurance.

4. If you are thinking on buying a new car, I would suggest go away from expensive cars because they would increase your car insurance rate.

5. If you are a teen or has a teen daughter or son under your auto insurance policy, demand for good grades.

6. If your age is over 62, consider getting a defensive driving class which will qualify you for a discount.

7. Always shop around. You’ll get difference car insurance quotes from different auto insurance companies.

Don’t forget to ask your auto insurance agent in West Haven, Connecticut for discount that your insurer is offering. Also ask the Connecticut Insurance Department for other questions you have regarding car insurance rates in your area.

Should I Trust My Car Insurance Agent?

Reader’s Question:

I had an accident two weeks ago in Sacramento, California where I live, but I found out that my insurance will only cover the hospital bill of the driver I got into an accident with. My insurance said that my coverage will only be limited to personal injuries and not property damages. Was I swindled by my insurance agent?

Joseph,

Sacramento, CA

Well, Joseph, it seems you are a classic insurance buyer where you sign first and then ask questions later, when you’ve already gotten into an accident. Thinking you have an insurance coverage but not really understanding what and how much your insurance will cover is just the same as wearing a body armor made of cardboard in the interior. You’re giving yourself a false sense of security this way, if I may add. Joseph, I think what happened is, you bought what is called the Personal Injury Protection auto insurance or better known as PIP. The PIP is mandatory in 46 states and their cities including Sacramento, California, so, we might call them your basic insurance. Well, at least your PIP covered injuries inflicted. When accidents really are that bad, injuries to persons are much expensive rather than those damages to properties. Imagine, you or the other driver were put into comatose or needing surgery and will be confined to around 3 months in a hospital, can you imagine the bill that would amount to? If you’re really on a tight budget, personal injury protection auto insurance wouldn’t be that bad. As we say, as long as I breathe there is hope, at least being alive or having the means to stay alive is more than anything we can ask for. Damages to property won’t really be that a big thing when you know you just cheated death. So, drive safely.

Good Driver Auto Insurance Coverage In California

Reader’s Question:

If I live out of state with an out of state driver’s license, Will I have to have car insurance while driving in Burbank, California? I am a good driver with no accidents on my record

Gene

Burbank, CA

If you have car insurance on a car in one state typically it will extend and cover your vehicle in another state by conforming to at least that state’s minimum car insurance requirements.

If you are traveling from one state to another you will need to have car insurance on the car so that it is covered during the drive. Even if you came from a state where auto insurance is not strictly required on a vehicle and drove to Burbank, California, since California state law requires vehicles on their roadways to have auto insurance, or another form of financial responsibility, on them you would need to abide to this state law.

According to the California DMV all cars driven or parked on a CA street, road or highway must be insured.

New Driver Car Insurance – Why Does It Cost So Much?

Reader’s Question:

I’m a new driver here in San Francisco, CA. I still don’t have a car but I’m planning to get one, hopefully soon. I’m totally clueless when it comes to auto insurance stuff. Can you give me some tips on this?

Paige

San Francisco, CA

Sure Paige! The very basic thing you should know is what does California law requires for auto insurance coverage.
California State Law requires every owner and driver to maintain financial responsibility for accidents and there are four ways to establish such responsibility:

1. coverage by auto insurance policy;
2. a deposit amounting to$35,000 to Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV);
3. a surety bond amounting to $35,000, which must be acquired from a duly licensed company in CA; and
4. self-insurance approved by DMV

Now, let’s consider the types of auto insurance policies. Being in Bay Area also means getting an expensive auto insurance. Usually, there are 3 types of policy offered – preferred, standard, and assigned. Each policy differs in price and coverage.

Standard policy is for drivers with less traffic violations and/or cancellation of past polices. This policy offer lower premiums as compared to other kinds of policy. Preferred policies on the other hand are for California residents who have good driving history, (and I mean “clean” driving record) for three years. Lastly, Assigned Risk polices offer the most expensive rates but at the same time the offers the least amount of coverage.

I would also suggest for you to check on auto insurance companies. You can compare quotes here easily and faster and get the best policy that you think meets your needs.

Alaska Auto Insurance Discounts For Safe Drivers?

Reader’s Question:

Can you explain to me what a Good Drivers Plan is? I live in Alaska.

Ray

Anchorage, AK

The Good Driver Plan is a rating program offered by some insurance providers in Alaska and in most states. This Good Driver Plan reduces your insurance rate if you have had no traffic violations or accidents within a specified time period.

There is also a plan called Safe Driver Plan. This Safe Driver Plan has a rating system that assigns points for traffic infractions and certain accidents. Each point increases the surcharge percentage to the baseline insurance rates similar to a merit-rating plan. Therefore the Safe Driver Plan rewards motorists for being safe and without violation infractions or accidents while penalizing those with a poor driving record.

Car Insurance Discounts For Really Safe Drivers

Reader’s Question:

Hello, Im just want to know if a person will get higher car insurance premium if she never had any insurance policy before? Is there any discounts for those who any insurance before? I am a very safe driver with no record of speeding or running red lights or accidents.

Beth

Portland, ME

Car insurance first time buyers are likely to be charged a higher premium than a driver who has had car insurance for many years. The reason for this is because of the discount for renewing with the same insurance provider. Many insurers will extend policyholders a renewal discount if they are able to provide proof of prior insurance coverage.

There are still a lot of factors like the amount of time you have been licensed that will affect your car insurance rates. For instance, an individual that is an inexperienced driver and is purchasing car insurance for the first time will normally pay more than an experienced long time licensed motorist that has been under other insurance policy and is now purchasing their own auto insurance policy.

Insurers in most states are allowed to use a lot of factors to determine the customer’s premium rate. The cost of car insurance for different drivers differ, as the level of risk for the insurance provider varies.

Cheap SR-22 Auto Insurance For Non Owner

Reader’s question:

What should I do if I am required to carry an SR-22 but I do not own a vehicle? Please help.

Mike

Good question.

Usually there is a requirement by the state (Department of Motor Vehicle) for the insurance company to certify that the motorist has the minimum liability coverage.

That is the reason why you need an SR-22. It guarantees that you are financial responsible. This certification is what we call SR-22.

So if you do not own a vehicle, you will need a non- owners SR-22. This will serve as your liability coverage protection. But the vehicle itself is not covered by the policy. The SR-22 only covers up to the minimum liability protection. It does not covers the vehicle but the liability of the motorist that may cause in an accident. This will protect other people’s injuries in case of accidents due to your negligence. This is when you are driving someone else’s car.

This policy does not cover you in any car that you drive. Different state have different policy, but usually it does not cover you for the car registered to you, in your household, or any type of vehicle that is provided to you for your everyday use. If in any case you have a car registered to you or there’s one in your household or someone provided a car for you to use everyday, you should not purchase a non-owners policy.

Goodluck!

I Need Cheap SR22 Auto Insurance in Florida

Reader’s question:

What is SR-22 filing and what process is involved to reinstate my license in Florida?

Rica

That’s a good question.

The SR-22 filing provides a proof to the Department of Motor Vehicle of your driving privilege that removes you from suspension of your license. This is being issued by your insurance company which guarantees you that you are getting the least minimum liability. If you wanted to know if you can get SR-22 filing without purchasing an insurance, the answer is No. The SR-22 filing shows proof of your liability insurance coverage.

The SR-22 is needed for those whose license were revoked or is under suspension by the Florida Department of Motors vehicles. This includes drunk driving, more minor moving violations within the year, unpaid fins and other tickets, or uninsured accidents.

To reactivate your driver’s license you will need to buy the minimum liability coverage first on the vehicle that you own. On the other hand, if you do not own a vehicle, you must purchase the Non-owners coverage. The amount would depend on the degree of your driving record, your location, and your driving experience. You can get your driving record from DMV if you do not know it. Normally, the SR-22 filing period is from one to three years although this can still be extended.

Contact Florida DMV to ask them what other fees you will need to pay to reinstate your drivers license.

Goodluck!

Cheap Senior Car Insurance Rate Quotes

Reader question:

I’m reaching retirement age and I know that means that there will be some changes on my auto insurance policy. Can you give me a hint as to what I have coming?

Gilbert

Great question, Gilbert.

Whenever you get to that point where it is time to retire, you reach the point of your car insurance history where you will have the lowest rates ever. This starts when you turn fifty and officially become a part of the car insurance industry’s lowest risk group, those who aren’t quit middle aged but aren’t quite seniors. It will last until you reach sixty five, generally, so enjoy it while you can.

Now that you are of this age, it is true that there are some changes that can be made, and not just in the initial rates. If you are around fifty five, you will be open to discounts marketed specifically for seniors, and as a retired person, you will probably be able to get some kind of car insurance discount through the American Association for Retired People, or AARP. Most car insurance companies will do whatever trey can to help you get better rates, because you are part of their favorite risk group.

If you have a long history of safe driving, you can get extra discounts for this, and you might want to consider taking a defensive driving course through AARP. If you take a course, you could get as much as a fifteen percent discount with some companies, and it couldn’t heart to remind yourself a bit. Another good way to go is to make sure you are doing well healthily. You are reaching the years in which the health states to decline, and getting regular eye and medical exams can help keep car insurance companies confident that you are road safe.

As soon as you turn seventy, though, your rates go up again because of failing health and the statistically greater amount of accidents in this age group. Save your money while you can.

Cheers,

Cheap Illinois Car Insurance Rates For Good Drivers

September 6, 2007 by fashun · Leave a Comment

The state of Illinois carries a particularly had line when it comes to mandatory car insurance laws. Although this may seem bad for the person caught without insurance, it helps bring Illinois car insurance rates down. What some people don’t realize is that an accident in and of itself isn’t a huge cause in the rise of car insurance rates. As a matter of fact, the number of fraudulent claims and accidents involving uninsured motorists are big causes of the driving up of rates in states like Illinois every year.

Whenever you go to get your registration in Illinois, they check to make sure you have car insurance, and you can not renew it without proof. The proof of car insurance is a card with all of your insurance information that your car insurance company sends you whenever you first get a policy or when you renew it. You are required by the state of Illinois to have the following car insurance coverage:

  • Injury/death liability for a single person is $20,000
  • Injury/death liability for multiple people is $40,000
  • Property damage liability is $15,000

If you are out driving without car insurance, the expenses are huge. If you get pulled over by a cop for committing a traffic violation, or even for something small like having a light out, your insurance will be checked. If you don’t have it, you get hit with a five hundred dollar fine. It’s even worse for people whose plates are already suspended because they’ve driven without insurance before. For them, the amount is a thousand dollars.

Even if you aren’t caught while driving, you can still be found out for not having car insurance coverage. The reason for this is that the Illinois DMV has a computer system that randomly mails questionnaires to people and you have to fill it out to provide your car insurance information. If you don’t fill it out with the information, you could be fined.

Cheers,

Fashun Guadarrama.
