The Good Driver Plan is a rating program offered by some insurance providers in Alaska and in most states. This Good Driver Plan reduces your insurance rate if you have had no traffic violations or accidents within a specified time period.

There is also a plan called Safe Driver Plan. This Safe Driver Plan has a rating system that assigns points for traffic infractions and certain accidents. Each point increases the surcharge percentage to the baseline insurance rates similar to a merit-rating plan. Therefore the Safe Driver Plan rewards motorists for being safe and without violation infractions or accidents while penalizing those with a poor driving record.

Things from test scores to the material it is made of can have an effect, and this is he reason that every car that you buy should be researched thoroughly before you go through with the final purchase. You don’t even necessarily have to get a car that is equiped with so many safet features and precautions, because there are some that you can have installed even after you have driven the car off the lot, and it might even be cheaper than paying for the option on your new vehicle.

Here are things that you should condsider about the safety of your car when you are buying a new one and want to get cheap safe driver insurance.

• Performance in accidents. Cars are tested both by the government and by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety to determine if they can be considered safe. They are tested in many ways, such as frontal and side impact, driver and passenger protection, and so on. The tests are not the be all end all of car safety because of the materials used, but insurance companies give them weight and it’s a good idea to take a look at them.
• Bumpers. One of the things that makes SUVs unsafe is that their bumper is positioned higher up than the bumpers of other cars, so that in a head on accident, instead ofthe force being diminished by the bumpers, the SUV’s bumper tears straight through the smaller ar and is often at body level with the passengers and driver.

Good question.

I wouldn’t say that you are ‘entitled’ to anything. All car insurance companies work in their own ways, although there are many similarities across the board. They don’t have to give you better rates because ou are a good driver and your record shows that. However, statistics and further evidence shows that it is profitable to do so, so most companies will. Don’t automatically assume a good deal before checking with the company though. Compare quotes online and then check each companies website to determine whether they offer safe driver insurance discounts.

It is true that in most cases you will get a lower rate when you are buying car insurance if you have a good driving record. That means no moving violations, no previous claims, no accidents that were your fault, and sometimes no ticket for things like lack of insurance. Every company has different standards, so some will hold any claim against you while others will only hold the ones that were your fault against you. If you do get in an accident in which you are the at fault driver, many companies offer accident forgiveness and you can continue getting safe driver benefits, and if they don’t then after another year or so of keeping your record clean, you can receive these benefits again.

This is, though, one of the best ways to save money on car insurance. Driving safely will not only keep your rates down based on the history that you have with a certain insurance company, but it will keep your total number of claims down, and it will keep you in good standing with the law and in possession of your license. Everybody wins.

That’s the ideal insured person. Not everybody’s going to be like that (okay, nobody), but there are a lot of ways that you can go in that direction and get cheaper rates on safe driver insurance. You can go the route of getting safety features and equipment added on and not speeding in school zones, but there is one very important way that you can get cheaper insurance rates and learn to be a better, more responsible driver, and that is by taking a defensive driving class.

Many people will say that they don’t need a defensive driving class. They are good drivers, have never gotten in an accident, and so on. But there are so many possible situations out there that it is impossible for a person to know just by instinct how to react to them all in order to save themselves and the other driver the most pain possible. Even if you have every kind of electronic stability control or rollover sensing or whatever on your car, there is a point when the machine’s ability to prevent an accident ends and yours begins. If you don’t understand defensive driving techniques, then it isn’t there.

I’ve been driving a couple of years now under the radar, even though I don’t have my license. I have experience and know how to drive, and I’m about to turn eighteen, so I’ll be able to get my license without having to take a driver’s ed course. Is it a good decision to avoid the course if it isn’t mandatory if I want to get good rates on car insurance?

Nope.

I can’t really knock you, because I did the same thing. I was driving at fifteen but I didn’t get my license until I was eighteen. That was a bad choice I made, though, not only because I opened myself up to more accidents from lack of knowledge and possible loss of license in the future for driving without one then. I never got caught, but I was lucky, and I’m happy to be able to discourage others from doing the same. One of the most valuable things about your driver’s ed course, besides teaching you useful information that you will need out on the road, is that it will save you money by qualifying you for safe driver car insurance.

Did you know that, if you take a driver’s education class, they cost about two hundred dollars? You probably did. The cost is one of the main reasons that people avoid them. Did you also know that having that on your list of qualifications will save you that entire amount, if not more, in your first year of having auto insurance? That should change your mind a bit about taking a course.

Car insurance companies are very big on the idea of safety and responsibility. That’s why people can get discounts on car insurance for just being a mathematician, because studies show that these people are more likely than not to pay more attention to their surroundings and thus more able to avoid crashes. If you’re not so lucky as to be a mathematician or studying to be one, then you have to take extra measures to make yourself be seen as a responsible driver, and there’s more to those measures than just keeping your driving record clean. Taking a driver’s ed course not only helps you, but it saves you a lot of money over time.

I think it’s really great that you’re trying to watch how you drive and keep your record clean. Many people don’t understand that safe driving is actually a huge factor in car insurance rates. They understand to some degree, but only to the point where they know that their rates will be affected if they happen to get into an accident. Few consider the fact that, even if you don’t have any accidents on your record or even any dents on your car, getting a speeding ticket or a drunk driving charge can make your car insurance rates skyrocket.

The best way to avoid this is to make a sort of plan for yourself, what I like to call the Safe Driver Insurance Plan. There’s nothing official about it, it’s just sort of a list of things that you promise to yourself to do so that you can both protect yourself, your car, and your low auto insurance rates. It’s really easy to mess up and watch your rates go up high in a company that doesn’t have forgiveness. It’s also really easy to avoid situations that might send your rates up.

I suggest that any driver that doesn’t want to see any increase in their car insurance rates in the future draw up a plan with themselves that takes into account all of the main factors of rising insurance costs, not the least of which is sticking with only one company and refusing to check other quotes in case something has changed and somebody else is offering a better deal than they are.

The main things that you should focus on are defensive driving for in case you get into a situation that might lead to an accident, and to avoid getting into those situations; adhering to the law, and that means no speeding, even if you are late for work; keeping your car up to date with the latest safety equipment. You might also want to take a driver’s ed course to brush up on your knowledge and get a discount.

I got pulled over for speeding the other night, but lucky for me, I got off the hook. I’m scared now, though, because if it happens again then I’m sure to get a ticket and I don’t want to see my rates go up. How do I avoid this?

It seems like it should be as simple as that, but there’s some kind of human urge to be going at a certain pace. It isn’t even consistent. Sometimes, I feel like I’m going too fast at thirty five. Other times like I’m just inching along at forty five. It really depends, and it’s something that you have to learn to control. I suggest that you come up with a safe driver insurance plan to help you avoid bad situations where you might end up speeding. And never allow yourself an excuse to speed.

One of the best ways to avoid speeding doesn’t even necessarily involve you going at or below the speed limit. It’s called being aware of your surroundings. If there are several cars around you going sixty, then you can reasonably go fifty and not risk at all getting pulled over. Keeping an eye on how traffic is behaving is one of the best skills for both avoiding speeding tickets and keeping yourself from getting into a car wreck. Knowing what the other cars might do allows you to compensate for them.

Most of the time, the thing that will get a police officer’s attention is you being obnoxious driving. One time, I got a ticket for having expired registration because I happened to pull up at a stop light behind a cop car and then try and pull away in a very awkward and suspicious manner. If I had just sat there until the light turned green and then casually changed lanes, he probably never would have even looked. Keep this principle in mind when you feel the need to go over the speed limit. Only do what the others around you are doing, because you cant be caught out if they’re all speeding.
