Vehicle owners shopping for car insurance in Houston can benefit from researching about the factors that can affect the rate for their car insurance and the helpful tips on finding the best coverage for a very cheap price. Texas law states that insurance companies should provide adequate coverage and should not charge too much rates, but the interpretation of the law may differ from one company to the other.

Knowing what coverage you want and needs is the first step to get the best and affordable car insurance plan. After you have chosen the right coverage for you, you can compare rates from different providers. The following are the types of coverage that Texan will encounter:

Liability car insurance: Liability insurance has the minimum auto insurance coverage that is required by law. This covers the driver, his family members, passengers on the car, driving with the policy owner’s vehicle with permission against a others that they have caused damage to due to accidents whose fault was on the driver. The lowest amount of the coverage by law is called 20/40/15. This means that $20,000 per injured person up to $40,000 total for every person hurt in the accident and $15,000 for the property damage.

Medical payments coverage- This is the type of insurance that covers the medical bills and funeral cost due to accidents. this also includes cases where the victim was a pedestrian. Injured individuals are covered regardless who is at fault.

Personal injury protection coverage- This is similar to medical payment coverage but this covers 80% of the lost income due to accidents and the cost of the caregiver. The minimum personal injury protection is $2500 but you must declare in writing if you would refuse PIP to the insurance company.

Uninsured/underinsured motorist protection- This coverage protects an individual against damages caused by uninsured or underinsured drivers including hit and run accidents that is being reported to the police.

Collision coverage- this covers the cost of repairing your vehicle due to accidents regardless who is at fault or driving the car during the accident.

Comprehensive (physical damage other than collision) coverage- this coverage deals with the damages resulted from fire, theft, vandalism and other acts of nature and non collision related accidents. This covers the full value of the car minus th deductible.

Towing and Labor Coverage- this covers the cost of the tow truck or cost for any roadside assistance.

rental reimbursement coverage- this covers the cost of the rental vehicle while your vehicle is under repair due to damages that is being covered by your insurance agency.

Goodluck!
