Well, yesterday my husband was on his way to work and the guy behind him at the stop light ran straight into him the second the light turned green. He was in a truck, a Ford F150 I believe much bigger than our vehicle but our car is still a pretty good size, as we have a PT Cruiser. His bumper crunched up into little pieces.I’d just like to use that as a reminder for people considering getting a truck or SUV because of the safety–while these cars are big and hard to cause damage too, their bumpers are usually not very well made and not only do they rip through a smaller car, but they crumple up at the slightest touch and don’t do a good job absorbing impact, which is the whole reason they exist in the first place.
The damage to our own car seems minimal, although it will cost a bit to fix it. There is a very thick cut down the middle of our bumper in the back and some denting, and my husband seems worried that there might have been some inner damage done to the car.
Why am I telling you all of this? Because I intend to write about our personal experience with the claims process for a no fault car insurance claim so that you can see what it is really like and incorporate the advice next time you need to get a car insurance claim settled.
The car insurance company of the other guy was AllState, so this will also serve as a sort of scattered, lengthy review of their customer and claims service. So far, we have not called their claims department, although we intend to do so once he gets home from work today. The whole claims process has not gotten off to the best start because, well, I wasn’t there. As much as I tell him about car insurance claim, it seems that he doesn’t take my advice. Our camera for accidents was not in the car because I had taken it out to take a picture of something (okay, my fault) and, on top of that, he didn’t call for a police report to be done. However, hopefully this won’t be a problem because the at fault driver seemed very apologetic and it doesn’t look like there will be any dispute. Anyway, I will report later today on how our car insurance claim call went with the AllState claims department.
