cheap auto insurance
Reader’s Question:
If a friend of mine got DUI while driving my car, will this affect my car insurance?
Albert
The answer is no.
If your friend was cited for DUI (driving under the influence) while driving your car it will not affect your car insurance in any way. He will received the citation written in their name and not in the car owner. That would mean it will go in their record as a driver and it will not cause you any problems in your car insurance.
However, for instance, he gets involved in an accident using your car, the resulting claims will then go on your claims record and will affect your insurance premiums. Insurance usually follows the car first and the driver the second so that means if your friend got into an accident, it would be your insurance that would kick in first and your friends insurance would be the secondary or would cover the excess if your coverage limits were exceeded.
As the owner of the car, you have liability for those who uses your car so if the insurance limits were exceeded, then usually, in most sates, the driver and the owner of the car are responsible for all the damages that the motorist may cause while driving the vehicle.

I Need Cheap Non Owners Auto Insurance
Reader’s Question:
If Im driving a company car, do I need to use my own insurance?
Molly
Thank you for asking.
All vehicles that is being use in the public road must be insured by the owner in accordance with the state laws. You company is the one responsible for the insurance and for making sure that the vehicle that is being used by the employees are properly insured.
In case of accident, the insurance usually follows the vehicles,, so the insurance on that vehicle should be used as the primary insurance, and your own insurance will kick in if the damages on that vehicle exceed the limits of the insurance on that vehicle. So in most cases, if you are not driving your own vehicle, if its owned by a friend or by the company, you are not required to use your own insurance on that vehicle
It is usually advised that you carry a non owners insurance policy to cover yourself if you are driving some one else’s car. In case the owner of the vehicle insurance lapse or if the limits on the policy are low, then this would give you an additional insurance protection.
You might need to contact your company’s insurance provider to check on the insurance policy on the company vehicle and check the coverage that is provided to you when you drive it.
Goodluck!

Cheapest car insurance premium
Reader question:
Can I get the cheapest car insurance premium by making my car safer?
Alex
Yes, you definitely can.
While you may not get the cheapest car insurance premium just by adding safety features to your car, you will still get some pretty good discounts. Making your car as safe as possible decreases your risk factor. You should look into your state discount car insurance laws, because several, actually most, states require that car insurance companies give discounts for things such as air bags and seat belts. Most companies give these discounts anyway, though, and also for other safety features such as electronic stability control.

Low cost car insurance
Reader question:
Can I get low cost car insurance by driving a safe car?
Abbie
Thanks for asking, Abbie.
You absolutely can get low cost car insurance for driving a safe vehicle. Safety is a big factor when car insurance companies determine the risk that a certain customer poses, and the safety of their vehicle plays big into that. Before you buy any car, make sure that you get auto insurance quotes for it and also look at the IIHS and the NHTSA crash tests results for your car so that you can make sure it has a very good safety rating. Thinking about insurance before you buy will save you from worrying about insurance after.

Budget car insurance
Reader question:
How can I save the biggest chunk on my car insurance premium?
Bella
Thank you for your question, Bella.
The fastest and most heavy hitting way for you to save money on your budget car insurance premium is for you to raise your deductible. A lot of people get by with higher car insurance premiums but keep their deductible at around two hundred and fifty dollars. I get that, as about a year ago I would have had trouble coming up with those two hundred and fifty dollars. However, I saved up the money I saved and raised my deductible, and now I have three thousand dollars in savings and a one thousand dollar deductible that I’ve never had to pay.
Cheers,

Commercial car insurance
Do you own a business, or does your job require you to do a lot of driving? If you can answer in the affirmative to either of those statements, then you can probably look into getting a commercial car insurance policy. Depending on where you stand, there are different ways to go about this.
- Business owner.
If you own a business that requires your employees to do a lot of driving in company cars, then you should probably get a commercial car insurance policy. Policies for multiple vehicles as in this situation are different than individual policies, and the deal is basically that you will probably do better if you are self insured. People who own a fleet of cars, which consists of more than ten cars, are good candidates for being self insured. However, if you want to provide your own car insurance for your employees, then you have to be able to back that up with money by getting a bond or handing over tens of thousands of dollars in some other way to your state department of motor vehicles.
- Self employed.
You might not need commercial car insurance if you are among the self employed work force. For example, if you work from your computer like I do, then you probably don’t use your car for business reason. However, if you make a lot of deliveries or drive people around for your business, then you need commercial car insurance.
- Employee.
You might own your own car but use it to travel for business or to make runs for the company you work for. Most larger companies provide commercial insurance policies, and you should see if you are covered for any collisions or damages that happen while you are on the job.
Auto insurance claim experience
Well, yesterday my husband was on his way to work and the guy behind him at the stop light ran straight into him the second the light turned green. He was in a truck, a Ford F150 I believe much bigger than our vehicle but our car is still a pretty good size, as we have a PT Cruiser. His bumper crunched up into little pieces.I’d just like to use that as a reminder for people considering getting a truck or SUV because of the safety–while these cars are big and hard to cause damage too, their bumpers are usually not very well made and not only do they rip through a smaller car, but they crumple up at the slightest touch and don’t do a good job absorbing impact, which is the whole reason they exist in the first place.
The damage to our own car seems minimal, although it will cost a bit to fix it. There is a very thick cut down the middle of our bumper in the back and some denting, and my husband seems worried that there might have been some inner damage done to the car.
Why am I telling you all of this? Because I intend to write about our personal experience with the claims process for a no fault car insurance claim so that you can see what it is really like and incorporate the advice next time you need to get a car insurance claim settled.
The car insurance company of the other guy was AllState, so this will also serve as a sort of scattered, lengthy review of their customer and claims service. So far, we have not called their claims department, although we intend to do so once he gets home from work today. The whole claims process has not gotten off to the best start because, well, I wasn’t there. As much as I tell him about car insurance claim, it seems that he doesn’t take my advice. Our camera for accidents was not in the car because I had taken it out to take a picture of something (okay, my fault) and, on top of that, he didn’t call for a police report to be done. However, hopefully this won’t be a problem because the at fault driver seemed very apologetic and it doesn’t look like there will be any dispute. Anyway, I will report later today on how our car insurance claim call went with the AllState claims department.
