Reader question:

How do I get a very cheap car insurance score?

Mandy

Great question.

There are several ways for you to get a very cheap car insurance score. These ways include looking into discounts that apply to you, raising your deductible, and lowering the amount of coverage you have to the minimum. The kind of car you drive and how you drive it will also be important in the process. But did you know that one of the biggest factors that goes into the decision of giving you a high or a low car insurance premium has to do with something that ostensibly has nothing to do with driving?

What?

It’s your credit report. More and more car insurance companies are using the details on their customers’ credit reports to determine what is called an insurance score. The insurance score is the biggest factor in your premium rate decision. While it is not decided on the same way that your credit score is, the insurance score has a lot more to do with the regular payments and good standing than a significant credit history and few accounts.

Improving your credit report can cause a dramatic decrease in your premium rates. This takes time to do, but it is worth it in every aspect of your life. What you have to do is order your free credit report from each of the credit reporting agencies, and then start payment plans with everybody that you owe money to. Even if the payments are not big and the interest rates go just as fast, paying steadily goes a long way towards improving your credit score, and, as a result, your insurance score.

I Need Help WIth My SR 22 Filing

1. Why do I need an SR 22 filing for my car insurance?

Usually SR 22 filing for car insurances required if you mess up royally on the road, usually if you get a ticket for speeding or if you get taken in for drunk driving and you are convicted. It’s not always something bad, though. Several states who are on the stricter side of car insurance law mandate SR 22 filing for everyone. Have a lapse of your coverage even for a day in one of those states, like New York, and you could risk fines or even the suspension of your license. Yikes!

2. Who does the SR 22 filing?

It depends on where you’re at or what your case demands. Normally, the car insurance company will do the SR 22 filing. You just need to tell them that you need it. However, that is not the case with everybody. Now and then you will have to take the SR 22 form up to the driver’s license office yourself. If this is the case, call your car insurance company and ask for them to mail you a copy of the form they have already filed. If you’re on a time limit, your company might offer it on their website.

3. How long do I have to file SR 22?

It depends on your case.

4. How long does SR 22 stay on my record?

It usually stays around three years, but in some cases it can stay up to five years. After five years, though, it falls off of your driving record and will no longer affect your car insurance rates.

5. Can the company I’m with right now do SR 22 filing?

That’s entirely up to them. It’s often the case that if you get a drunk driving conviction or a speeding ticket, you’ll get your car insurance policy cancelled. This can’t be avoided. If this happens, you will have to shop around for another company. There are companies that specialize in customers who have high risk qualities such as DUIs or high performance cars.

Where Can I Buy Cheap RV Motor Home Insurance?

Summer is ending, but for those who own RVs, vacation does not have to end. There are thousands, if not millions, of people in the United States who spend a significant amount of their year living in parks all around the country in their recreational vehicles, and the number of these people is growing. Because of this growth, the need for knowledge about RV motor home insurance is on a much higher demand.

A significant number of people who insure their RVs simply add these vehicles to the same insurance plan that their car is on. This might seem like a good idea, considering that most of the time in an RV is spent parked rather than on the road, and thus the likelihood of a car accident is smaller, but it really is not. You never know what is going to happen, and if you don’t prepare for it, especially in the case of such a vehicle as an RV motor home, you are going to face a lot of loss.

RV motor home insurance is necessary to all operators of motor homes because it covers a lot more than your average car insurance policy does. One of the most important things is the contents of the RV. With your car, if you get into a wreck and lose a few CDs, that might come under the coverage of your home insurance policy. However, with an RV this is not the case, especially for the big and expensive items that come installed with the RV and are not insured under a regular car insurance plan.

Drivers of RVs need RV motor home insurance because it protects both whatever is in the RV, the RV itself, and their medical problems that could result from an accident. It also comes with more liability, which is very important considering that a collision with an RV could cause a lot more damage to the other car involved. Another thing that might appeal to travelers is that it gives them an ability to travel outside of the country to Canada and Mexico while retaining their coverage and not having to get travel car insurance.

Good Driver DUI Car Insurance Quote?

Reader question:

Can being a good driver get me a good DUI car insurance quote?

Nikolas

Sometimes.

Usually, even having a spotless driving record for years and years won’t act as a buffer against rising rates due to a DUI conviction. Usually, when you get a DUI, either your policy will be canceled and you’ll have to look for another company to be insured with, or your rates will be raised. This is something that applies to all dangerous driving acts, such as speeding tickets. However, sometimes being a good driver can help you. Want to know how?

It really all goes back to the basics. In order to get the best deal on your car insurance, you need to shop around to find the best company, right? Well, when looking for a company, one of the questions you should ask is how they treat their customers who have otherwise stellar driving records but have DUI convictions or speeding tickets. There are many companies that will forgive the first offense of this type, just like they will forgive the first no fault accident. In fact, if you get with the right kind of company, you could even get a good driver discount after a DUI conviction. The right kind of mindset when shopping is the best way to get yourself a DUI car insurance quote.

Of course, having the right company isn’t the only way to get out of a rate raise due to DUI, although it is the one that is most in your control. Slightly less effective, but still controllable by you is taking a defensive driver course in order to erase the offense from your driving record before it has any effect. This depends on what options you are offered, though. Another, more remote, possibility, is the off chance that the court might just not tell the department of motor vehicles about your little incident. If they fail to do this, then your car insurance company can’t know. However, if and when they do find out, they can cancel you at any point within a three year period after the offense.

Is Car Insurance Fraud Affecting My Insurance Rates?

You can be a victim of high car insurance fraud rates without even knowing it. All the time people are having their rates raised, their policies cancelled, and all of this because they were involved in a fraudulent accident where it was made to seem that they were the at fault driver, even to the point that they believe it themselves some times. It isn’t very hard to cause an accident like this, and can be as simple as claiming that something that happens every day did not. For example, when you are at a stop sign and another car signals to you that you can go ahead of them, you go. But, if this other driver wants to commit car insurance fraud, they will go as well, and then later say that you went out of turn and they never gave you a signal. You end up as the at fault driver, and a victim of car insurance fraud.

What are some other ways that you can get pulled into car insurance fraud against your will?

  • Bump from behind.

One of the most successful strategies that people committing car insurance fraud use is quickly changing lanes to be in front of someone, and then hitting the brakes. The other person doesn’t have enough time to slow down to avoid an accident, but it will still be seen as their fault. The so called victims can also pretend that they got hurt in order to get more money out of it.

  • And this and this and this…

Another way for them to get more money for their fraud is to, after the collision has taken place, cause more damage to their car themselves and then report it as a result of the accident. This is why it is always important to take photos and get a police report of every accident. It’s not always possible to avoid being taken in, but documenting things and practicing defensive driving go a long way.

If you own an automobile in Colorado, you are required to purchase a car insurance. In the event you injure someone else or damages someone else’s property, you are required to carry liability insurance to provide financial protection. Here are some suggestions of steps that you can follow to save money on car insurance:

Shop for coverage. Colorado has a vibrant auto insurance market that is competing for your business. Be wary and make sure you review the financial stability of the insurance company and its customer service record.

Consider your level of deductibles. You may reduce your premiums by raising your deductibles.

Ask any available discounts. You can get discounts on:

  • two or more cars on policy or with the same insurance carrier
  • anti theft devices
  • taking driver’s refresher course
  • good student status

Drive responsibly. Accidents, tickets or citations are three of the factors that contribute to higher premiums. Make sure you obey traffic rules all the time.

The fewer miles you drive, the less chance of getting to accident. This would lower your premiums.

Expensive cars that are stolen more often cost more to insure. It also costs more to repair and replace thus giving you higher monthly premiums. So before purchasing a car, make sure you get a low profile or low maintenance car.

The Colorado Division of Insurance has many resources available to consumers to help them with insurance policies and choices. You may get as much as information you needed to to make sure you get the best insurance rate in Colorado.

basis for car insurance premium charges

Here are the determining factors that affects premium on car insurance:

AGE- Teenagers have high insurance premiums especially those without driving records. They can avail of the discounts if they undertake driving courses. They are also entitled to “good grade discount” if they have good academic records. Generally, these discounts are offered to those blow the age of 25. On the other hand, those senior drivers, above 55 years of age may avail of the retirement discounts since they have less miles driven per year. Some insurance company offer refresher course to get discounts also.

DISTANCE- This determines how much the car is being used. Discounts usually benefits to drivers who do not drive frequently.

TYPE OF CAR- If you are driving a very expensive car, definitely cost you more to insure it due to expensive cost for repairs and replacement.

GENDER- Gender may also be a determining factor since men usually drive more than women do. Men also have a higher accident involvement at all ages.

Check your local insurance company for other basis of premium charges.

Get Cheap Car Insurance in Missouri Now

If you are involved in a car accident or stopped by a police officer and found to be driving without car insurance , you will be subject to penalties in the state of Missouri like cancellation of your vehicle’s registration or go to jail. But if you have a limited income, what should you do to bring down the cost of automobile insurance in Missouri?

Here are few things that may help you:

  • The basic and the surest way is to drive safely. If you get involve in accidents one too many times, this would definitely increase your monthly premium rates. Make sure you keep a clean driving record and obey traffic rules. My rule of the thumb is never drink and drive! Tickets for speeding or drunk driving will definitely cause your premiums to rise.
  • Increase your deductibles. A deductible is the amount of any loss you must pay before the insurance company cover damages. It will decrease your insurance rates if you raise the deductible amounts on your policy.
  • Take advantage of the discounts and programs available in your insurance company. Do not assume though that just because you are getting the discount, the rate is good. Sometimes a company without any discounts will give you an overall lower rate than those company that offers discount. Check and shop around to compare prices.
  • Do you drive an expensive car? You can expect a higher monthly payment on your insurance since it will cost more to repair or replace it in case of an accident. I suggest you get a low profile car which is low maintenance to get lower monthly premium.
  • Shop around. A few phone calls and checking individual company website will save you hundreds of dollars. Make sure you talk to an agent directly for more information before making decisions.

In any case you are having difficulty obtaining coverage from any insurance company in Missouri, you can get coverage from Missouri Joint Underwriting Association (MJUA). Any agent will be able to provide you with MJUA rate and information who to contact.

Goodluck!

What Are The Different Types of Car Insurance?

August 31, 2007 by maricar · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Auto insurance quotes

There are actually different types of car insurance. The best thing to do is to figure out what type of policy best fits your needs. Most states would actually require you to have a minimum amount of liability insurance. These insurance includes bodily injuries which pays your legal fees and claims made against you, if you or someone driving your car with your permission, kills/injures someone. Its the same with property damage liability, only this covers legal fees and claims against you or someone driving your car with your permission for damaging someone else’s property.

In some cases when you are hit by uninsured, underinsured or a hit and run drivers, a few states require you to have uninsured motorist coverage which pays for medical fees and property damage expenses for you, your family and your passengers. This is only available in few states so you may discuss this with your local agents.

You might also want to consider the type of cars you are (or going to be ) using when purchasing an insurance. You may carry collision and comprehensive coverage if you’re driving a late model car. The collision covers payment for repairs due to fire, vandalism, theft and other acts of nature. But if you are driving an old car, it would be best to drop collision and comprehensive coverage altogether especially if the car is worth less than the insurance.

I would also suggest that you insure with the same company if you have more than one car. This can save you on your yearly premiums. You may check with your local agents for the best car insurance rate.

If you are still shopping for a car though, you may choose a low maintenance and low profile cars. Cars that cost a lot for repairs, cost a lot more to insure.

And of course, if you’re a student or a teenager the best way is to take a driver’s education course and keep a clean driving record. Like what they always say: “drive safely”.

Just remember that when it comes to car insurance, comparison shopping is difficult. Just be aware of the combination that contribute to your premiums so you may know what policy to get.
